Ive been restoring my basstracker and getting near the end. I put my side mount control box in and noticed the shifter will not pull out to engage neutral. These are the original controls being that i had no problems before. They were somewhat tight before but now there is no movement. I am a dummy when it comes to boats but this has been a great learning experience. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks in advance

It will not let me post a pic for some reason. Says filetype not correct but its a png. Its a morse unit if that helps. I did figure out the reason it wouldn't pull out was because the cables were engaged in gear when i screwed down the handle. Fixed that. However, now it will pull out with ease but will not stay out. If i pull out then move forward it will but if i just pull out, it will pop right back in. Im sure i have something reinstalled incorrectly. Ill try again with the picture tomorrow. Thanks

Really? I just didnt remember it being that way before. This may be a dumb question, but how does it stay in idle, if it doesnt stay out?

You have to be able to separate the throttle from the shifter for cold starting that is why the handle works the way it does. When you pull it out you separate the shifter from the throttle mechanism inside the controller. That way you have high idle throttle control for the cold starting with out it being in gear. When you bring it back and it pops back in it reengages the shifter so you have full control both throttle and shifting.. The motor will idle because the controller is in neutral and will work normally.
