About the starter, I've been through the same comparisons, but did find two suttle differences, the brushes on the marine starter have a spark arresting shield around them, also the starter housing on the marine starter had the vents sealed off, you could convert one to the other easy enough but they are different, same with the carbs just suttle differences, slosh tube, vent, and probably more I don't know.

J1171 is stamped on all marine starters, alternators then it's marine.

No j1171 then it ain't marine period.

Might look the same but a insurance co. won't pay up if it sees no number.

You get pulled over on the water look to be towed in a your expense and big fines.

I already posted why the most important reason to go with marine parts you and your family's safety.

The carb gets piped back to the fuel pump. There is a yellow overflow hose, makes it a marine carb.

I tried explaining before in a reply, and i replied here with respect and understanding. But i can see you don't get it.

All said and done, do me a favor post the hull id, and where you boat so i can stay as far away from you on the water as possible.

I'm done here.

There are a LOT more to a marine carb, fuel pump, and electrical parts than chiefalen mentioned. You can't just stick a hose some place and call it good.

You also have a Private Message regarding your signature.

Eru,
your not alone, there certainly are members here new to I/O engines and drives that have asked the same exact questions and the responses are always going to be the same when it comes to marine vs auto. Learn from it and continue on.

Here were I live there are no boat inspections you pay a fee and get your sticker that's it.As for auto parts I would say 90 percent of used boats have auto parts on them somewhere.

Im sorry but I must agree with everyone. Ive only been on the water for a few years but one of the first things you do not do is cut corners especially when its a safety issue. take the advice evryone is trying to give you. Its worth it to have to spend a little more time or $ to make it safe
