Bet you that lose brown wire is the ground for the gauges. Start checking the ground side. If you measure five volts, there is something in series with your circuit. Again, probably a bad ground.

i found it it was a 50 amp fuses blown in the motor run good now that replace everthing thanks a for all the help guys

Two questions,

Do you have a Volt Ohm Meter?

Do you know how to use it properly?

Dang Bubba, I was going there. If you dont know how to use a voltmeter I hate to say it will be better to get someone that does. This dont sounds like a complicated trouble if you know electronics and are handy with a voltmeter.

Do you know the battery to be good? I read something about you jump it and it work? I could not understand you well.
Use a good known battery...

I had this same problem on my 87 capri,Mine turned out to be all the conectors on the wire harness,I bought some contact cleaner spray and have not had a problem since,But i do however have a starter problem i cant seem to fix...Keeps staying engaged while the motor is running,Doesn not do it all the time ...puzzeled
