Part of my supplies arrived yesterday, still waiting on 25 yard of 1.5oz CSM and my roller.

Grinding on old glass, bottom was built up almost a 1/2" right beside the stringers, like to have never reached the bottom of them.

Even with a 7" grinder and 36 grit disk its slow going.

Not a lot of progress this week but did get a little grinding time in and my roll of CSM showed up at the door ( toys from UPS )
Will post more pics this week as I seal the new transom and get new stringers trimmed to the right height.

New transom coated in resin and cured, then tonight I tried my hand at putting the CSM on the transom. Wow does that stuff suck up the resin, used 1500ml to do the whole thing when it only took about 300ml on the bare plywood. I'll try to get pics up tomorrow of how it turned out.

HV, Checking in on your rebuild. Looking good so far. I know it has been raining, were you able to get the transom in before it started?

I wasn't able to get the transom in before the rain started here, after almost 2 years with very little rain it seems to rain almost every other day for the last 2 weeks. We have had almost 11" of rain in the last 72 hours so no boat work for me. Looks like I may have to mow the yard if it ever lets up lol.

We had great weather this weekend so I got the transom installed and filleted, ready for the 1708 and csm. It looks like it will be a great week so maybe I can get more done on her this week.

OK, here are some pics of the Transom, I hope to get to start setting the stringers tomorrow.

Transom set with alternating layers of CSM and 1708. CSM then 1708 then CSM then 1708 each layer 2" larger than the last.

I was able to get my first 2 stringers and mid bulkhead glued in with PL this morning, I'll start on the glass for them tomorrow afternoon.

I'm getting there slowly.

I see progress, looking good HV.

I see you used the PL on stringers. I cannot make up my mind if I will go that route. The idea is to keep from having 'hard' spots but that stuff dries hard as a rock, so I do not understand.....

I went with the PL because it was easier to deal with when putting the stringers down ( 30mins to adjust vs 15mins) and I don't think it gets any harder than PB mixed from resin and 1/4" glass and cabasoil. Just my thoughts. What you see installed is 2- 8ft sections ans a 24" piece and that took 3 30oz tubes.

You won't be able to glass tomorrow. It takes a minimum of 72 hours for that thick of a layer of PL to cure. If you attempt to lay glass over it before it cures the Outgassing of the PL will ruin the glass. As far as Hard Spots, It may appear that it cures Hard but in fact it remains flexible for life and although extremely firm, it is much "Softer" than wood against the hull. Even PB will flex when wood won't, that's why stringers are bedded in either PB or PL.

Hey Wood thanks for the info, looks like I will need to tarp it then. We are predicted to have rain by Tuesday so I will get a tarp over all of it. I hate to complain about the rain after so long without it, but I sure would like to get this part of the boat closed up.

Yeah, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but PL needs the cure time. GREAT stuff but it does take some time. I used to use it a lot, but now I use PB. Much faster cure time and you can move on to the glassin. You can get the stringers installed and completely glass in in a day.

PL also tends to bubble up as it off gases & cures, esp when laid down heavy. Run a layer of thick mil plastic along the PL & it will minimize the bubbling. Something along the thickness of a ziplock freezer bag. The plastic also allows you to 'cove' the PL by running the back of a spoon or a dowel along the plastic covered PL. Pix & Text description
