Back story: I recently purchased this motor to use as a kicker on my Chaparral open bow. While I am newer to boating, I should have known better than to purchase without running it first. When I got it out on the lake, it started and ran great... But I couldn't see the tell tale... So, I shut er down so I didn't overheat it. After much research I have determined that I should have the tell tale weather the thermostat is in or not.
Disassembly: I removed the lower unit and the thermostat housing. To my surprise no thermostat. Yes, I got sold a bill of goods... Someone had these issues and unloaded their problem on me.
Diagnosis: I was able to blow air through the system so no clogs. Screen area clear and clean. No water above water pump housing. I found a great water pump assembly drawing on the Browns Point site and determined the water seal is missing between the oil seal and the water pump housing. I ordered all new gaskets, grommets, and seals.
Assembly: Now when I am trying to put this back together I can't figure out the water seal and oil seal assembly or... I may have the wrong water pump housing...? The water seal and oil seal will not both fit together unless I am missing something.
Plea: Please help me out veteran boaters!
