1989 Evinrude 70 VRO Alarm

I have a 1989 Evinrude 70hp VRO engine on a Boston Whaler 15 Super Sport. At the very end of the last boating season, the alarm would begin to sound. Service reviewed the issue over the winter, and all was working well. Last weekend, however, the alarm started sounding continuously. Oil appears to be getting through to the engine. Any ideas on what to do to solve this issue. I really don't wish to manually mix oil and fuel if possible.<br /><br />Thanks.

If the alarm is a continuous tone I'm thinking it is an overtemp alarm on a 89' model.

Is there a specific area I should be focusing my attention to look at alleviating the overheating problem?

First we need to verify that that is indeed what the alarm is.Does it sound when running the engine on muffs?If so ,when it sounds you can disconnect the wire from the temp sensor located near the upper port side of engine block and see if alarm stops.I don't like to recommend running an engine that is under suspicion of cooling system problems just to test.Is there a plackard in the boat or engine manual that identifies your alarms?<br /><br />If engine has not had cooling system serviced for two or more years it is due for a waterpump and thermoostat replacement.
