I just uncovered my boat for the first time in 18 months. Cleaned the plugs, put new gas in the tank and took it to the lake for a test run. Idles great but when I shower down on it the motor stalls then quits. If I hold down on the choke then it doesn't quit but slowly gains rpms/speed. It just won't continue running unless I hold the choke in and even then is only at around 3000 rpms. Every few seconds it will seems to get a bit extra fuel but then remains around 3000. I guessing the motor is starving for fuel. Obviously I did not winterize/store the motor correctly. What do I do in order to get it running good?

It's time for a good carb cleaning.

Hi df...welcome to the board..

LCM is right on track. Time for a carb overhaul. You can almost bet that you have gummed up bowls from setting so long. While yer at it, may as well stick a new water pump impeller in it. Check all fuel lines for deterioration (sp?) and make sure all fuel connections are tight. Don't forget to check the gear lube. Drain it out and replace it with fresh lube. Good Luck!
