So i got a 1989 seaswirl tempo, with a 89 120hp evinrude vro, and i'm wondering if i should be using reg gas, or premium ?

I had a marina test the boat when i got it, and it fired right up... but couple days ago, after i switched out the 3/8th inline filter, i put it in the water, and it took almost 12 min to get it started... i choked it a ton, and saw oil in the water from what i bet was the motor getting flooded...

Should i be holding the choke down teh entire time i'm trying to start it, or should i just press it a couple times when starting.

1. Use 87 octane unleaded regular.

2. Choke/prime for first few revs when starting, then off.

Then off, meaning no more choke, just try and turn it over reg right.
