I have the same exact motor. Got the power head removed and starting a rebuild project. I'm not aware of a "relief valve" but im not yet an expert on this motor. Curious as to why the question of a relief valve. If you can give details maybe myself or others can help

Re: 1989 Force 125 hp water pressure relief valve

Well, my question came out of curiosity also since I could not find any info in the manual. My heat buzzer went off the last time I took the boat out. So far I changed the thermostat, impeller and the water pump. Before I take it back in the water I wanted to find out if there was a water pressure relief valve or maybe the thermostat has a dual function. Thanks.

There is a relief valve on all the larger H.P. motors. I don't believe it is some much an issue of replacing it but that it may be stuck closed, a common problem in older models. was it used in salt water?

Kcoll, good post. That's exactly what it says in the Seloc manual. Didn't see anything about it in the Chilton's manual.

The symptoms you describe are exactly my expierence with the 125. Repaced items you descibe with no fix. What I did was forced water thru the drain plug at the btm left and discovered water seeping into the cylinders. AHA! "BLOWN HEAD GASKET" was the cause of my grief which lead to removal of the powerhead and now is now my little rebuild project for the summer. Just so you know, cylinder wall damage was also discovered as I dug into this. You'll know after removing the head what your up against.
Good Luck ......

There is a releif valve. It is located at the bottom of power head . It is about the size of a quater. There are two bolt holding it in. Very hard to get them out without breaking the bolts. Whole unit is about 20 bucks.

Look at this link. It is called a bypass valve.
#101 on the parts list. Could not find your model number but this is a great place for parts. has very detailed pictures of motors.

Good luck Bypass valve

Hey Revertmastec. Checked out that site and is indeed a good place for info on a whole bunch of stuff. Got it bookmarked. Santana said he has a model 1251X9D ,which is the same as mine. The model you referanced @ Offshore.com was a model 1253X6B (a 1986 model). It does show a bypass Valve! But after searching I did find a 1251X9D and as best that I can see there is no referance to a Bypass Valve on the IPB. Again my engine did not have one. but then again maybe the previous owner removed it!

Thanks for all the input. I am convinced that there is no bypass valve on my engine.
