1989 Force 35 - Model 357Y94 Serial 1012 - Thermostat??

Hi-
I am wondering if there is actually a thermostat in this motor? 1989 Force 35 - Model 357Y94- Serial 1012
I know there is a cover somewhere...but I have read that the 35hp did not have a thermostat.

Can anyone shed some light?

I also need to change the plastic "water inlet screen" (Part# F435077) down near the impeller. Has anyone done this repair? Any notes, advice, techniques or special tools I might need?

The screen just pulls out when the lower's been removed.
No thermostat in that motor.
For some reason they installed a thermo housing and thermo and found it actually made it run hot?????
