1989 force 35 -should the water spray or stream....

I just picked up a very clean 1989 force 35....its on a 16' spectrum aluminum bass boat, had it out over the weekend and went through a few tanks of fuel w/o a problem.
The motor has two outlets for the water from the pump to exit, and when running(high or low RPM)the water sprays out from both openings. Should the water spray or stream on these little motors? I feel like I would rather see a nice steady stream and I am not, so I am concerned
After running for five minutes WOT I stopped, took off the cover and felt the engine all over, nothing too hot, I could push on the block for a second w/o a burn.
Does this sound like proper operation?

NOTE- the only very hot part of the unit after running was the shaft housing, as it runs down to the prop. I am assuming that this is heat from the exhaust as it is heads down and out.....??

Thanks for your help...

It is a spray. Check the lower unit lube.

I have an '89 35 hp on a 16' Grumman, it is a nice setup. It should just spray out the 2 holes on the housing, these holes are 3/8 or larger if it were a constant stream that would be a heck of alot of water to push through the motor. My shaft housing also gets very hot from the exhaust.

Also note there is probably a buzzer under your dash to signal any overheating by the motor, you should check it out.

Sounds like I have a healthy motor for now....I will check for a buzzer.

Thanks for the help.
