I am in need of someone who knows his way around a 50 Hp. I believe the wrong plugs are in my engine now....can anyone tell me the correct plugs to run or at least where I can start? I am also wondering what you guys suggest for a fuel to oil ratio. I have been running 50:1 but it smokes a bit...but that may go full circle back to incorrect plugs LOL HELP Thanks in advance Stuart

And yes 50:1 ratio.
Using synthetic oil will help with the smoke.

Roscoe thank you very muck for the info! Is this engine a historically an unreliable engine? I am trying to see if this engine is worth keeping or not? I am very good with the wrenches and don't mind tinkering but I fish a river with this motor and the current is swift if it concks out I am down the river without a paddle LOL! Thanks in advance.

Not the most reliable.
Easy to spin a prop hub, sometimes just from accellerating hard.
Electric components can be troublesome.
Lower unit, waterpump, and fuel pump needs to be maintained annually.

Ok you caught me in a typo.

Fuel pump needs a new diaphram every 5 years or so.

Lower unit needs new lube every year, or sooner if you have a leak.

Water pump impeller every year or two.
May need a whole new waterpump housing if it is showing excessive wear.

OIL - usually get Pennzoil full synthetic, $20 a gallon.
I have used AMSoil HPI , but it is not TC-W3 rated, so use at your own risk.

Don't need any special foam for inside the cowl.
I know guys that just used some 1.5 inch thick eggcrate foam, get it at a fabric store or craft store. Attach with spray adhesive, its like rubber cement.
