1989? force 50hp where's the model number?

A friend needs a new impeller & shaft seal for it, but I'm an Evinrude dude. I can't seem to find a tag or anything.

Metal plate on left side of transom mount, if you're standing behind the motor. Also, a small white sticker on the back of the engine near the top, likely faded. If all else fails, there should be a wiring diagram on the top of the motor. They usually stay in good shape. Use that to check against wiring diagrams in a Solec manual or similar, matching color codes, etc....to figure out which model you have in front of you.

Thanks. The numbers from the metal tag on the transom mount are mod: M507F9B ser:1045. the local dealer has told him 3 times that these are wrong, & he needs "more numbers". do they appear correct to you? Would you have a link to use for identification?

It's definitely a 1989. I think the 'M' stands for model number. Look here, and take the 'M' of fthe number: http://www.maxrules.com/models/forcemodels/50_85.html

Thanks Robert! The part # really helped! I was able to find the number for the shaft seal too. The best prices I've found were at boats.net. It's a real shame that the local dealer is so "hardheaded" that he can't look 'em up for me. Guess my buddy'll have to fish with me this weekend, LOL! I really appreciate your help!

Did you see all those model numbers....just for the 50hp Force? Incredible. I can picture a lazy parts guy that's depending on a paper catalogue not wanting to look through all those That really is way too many model numbers, considering they probably share 95% of the same parts!

I do agree! Maybe that's part of the reason they didn't last. I also noticed that there are lotsa different impellers just for the 50hp. It seems sooooo unnecessary!
