1989 Force 85 hp Idle problem

I am having a problem with my 1989 85hp force engine.
The engine starts great and runs but after a couple of minutes will be begin spitting llike it is misfiring. The fuel filter is clean, the sparkplugs are new. I did notice the spark plug wires seem to connect to the plugs loose (not like a car or snap on). I am the original owner and now these are the original coils. Is it possible they need to be replaced?
I also notice that when we take it out skiing, when you throttle up to pull a skier out of the hole that sometimes it will die causing me to have to restart?
Any possible corelation?

sounds like flooding to me, make sure fuel pump diaphram is not torn, fuel pump is working properly, make sure carburator float needle is not stuck. jet needles and mixture screws are set to factory specs. and compression is good, doesnt sound electrical usaully if condenser, coils are going bad they just quit working never off and on.

i have the same motor. i can't find the idle crew and mixture screw. Where are these screw located? Please help,,,Thanks

The mixture screws on mine are in the front of the carb opening at 12 o'clock. I need to remove the 3 rubber plugs from the front of the airbox and use a standard screw driver to access the screws. My idle speed is adjusted back in the linkage, not on the carb.

Just a friendly reminder that the idle adjustment "screw" is completely different from the air/fuel mixture adjustment "screw" on the carb(s). I know that some folks will get the two confused are assume that they are one and the same. Just an FYI.
