hi all,

just completed a carb rebuilt to fix a fuel leak and neeed to leave the primer solenoid on manual, all fixed. turned the motor over and even got my idle down to 600, ish rpms. The problem now, that i did not have previous to the rebuild, is an all around poor sound run. the idle has always been rough, but throttling down the motor sounded great and pushed up fairly high, i know its not great when not it the water, but for testing purposes its been done a few times. after the rebuild the motor around 2000 rpms sounds rough, and bogs down pushing past 2600 ish. im no mechanic and getting this ruuning was a stretch, at this point iv run out of things to tune/fix/ pull apart. any suggestions? if anyone can suggest places to read up or reseacrh this type o motor or problem that would be helpful as well, thats how if fixed it in the first place.

the bogging out, rough igh rpms...bad plugs/ old plugs? fuel problems possibly but i really dont think so, it cuts out and the primer is hard and will leak fuel out of what u think is an over flow mechanism

check coil packs?

really confused as it was running really well two days ago and after carbs rebuilt its not. i put the choke on manually like beore the carbs were cleaned and that kill the motor completely

thanks!

You may want to check the ignition to insure that the engine is running on all 6 cyls. It's easy to check the spark first. If it's ok, then move on to fuel issues: Two ignition tests are good: 1. the cyl drop test or 2. by using an inductive timing light to check spark on all 6 plugwires. That engine will seem to run just fine when sitting on the trailer when running on 4 or 5 cyls. Hard to tell anything on the trailer. When you get it under load in the lake is when you need all 6 plugs firing. If you find weak or non-existant spark on one or more cyls, this website has some excellent ignition troubleshooting info: cdielectronics.com The coils on that engine are usually pretty reliable, so look closely at the power pack, stator and timer base components. Make sure the red lever on the fuel primer solenoid is in the "run" position-not the "service" position. The only time it should be in the "service" position is when injecting Engine Tuner or Fogging Oil.
