I recently pulled the lower unit to replace the impeller. While the lower unit was off, the throttle (at the console) was accidentally moved from reverse to neutral. I put it back where I thought it was when I removed the lower unit, but obviously didn't get it in the same spot. When I ran it on the hose, it had no forward or reverse so I guess I missed the bolt hole in the shift rod when I reinstalled the bolt behind the carbs.
Is there any cool trick to lining these up without taking the bolt all the way out? (I was able to get the shift rod to clear the bolt without taking the bolt all the way out since it looks like a real pain to get the threads started, so I was hoping to put it back in the same way)
Does the shift rod go up for reverse or down for reverse? I'm talking about the shift rod on the lower unit that parallels the main drive shaft.
thanks,
Tregs
