Seems like alot of grinding on such a thin area. I need to see what a 1.5oz csm thickness actually looks like. I will be sweatin bullets grinding the topside for the bed of PB and then the bottom for the csm to lay in.

Yeah I seen that video right after I did the damage and was looking for repair videos. Looks like they didnt do anything to the outside other than mylar and tape. All the repair was done on the inside of the boat.

I had the same problem of my floor butting up against the hull (plywood with tabbed glass). Circular saw only took off so close. I trimmed most of the rest with an angle grinder with a C7 Bad Blade (although it's a very dangerous combo in the wrong hands). But I decided not to grind the rest. I trimmed the excess glass and wood with a Harbor Freight multi-tool with a metal cutting blade. Worked great. No dusty mess.

I have read the thread .. I can tell ya You might consider chalking this up to a "learning experience" ..

From what I can see from the pics..and posts.. you have a Full blown resto/gut job on your hands.

Yank cap/engine/trans/stringers/deck etc.

Even if you dont uncap..are you sure ( " Never done glasswork" ) you want to spend the time and $ on this ??

Your in demolish mode right now ( easy part ) .. Your sure you want to go into the resto mode ?

Just asking because this looks kinda technical for a first timer resto to me ..

I am a retired contractor by trade and the only thing that is throwing me is the fiberglass work. I have been doing my own vinyl for years ever since I apprenticed in an upholstery shop many years ago. I have hand built several street rods and such but never really worked on a boat. The engine I am not scared of other than diagnosing the darn thunderbolt ignition system this thing has. I have built a few pontoon boats from scratch as well. I know that my stringers have very/had very little rot as the bad section is gone and replaced with a new section. The wood for the floor is already cut and test fitted, the new bulkheads I believe they are called are already bedded to the boats floor. I believe now I have to get an accurate order for all my fiberglassing stuff and place it. The bulkheads have all been covered in resin and ready for new glass to go over them. The rear sundeck is already cut and I need to throw a few more braces on the new rear seating and then its ready to be covered. I have a local guy that is less than 2 mins away that sells all the fiberglass stuff including rolled 1.5oz csm and biax cut by the yard. Like it or not I am already in to far to turn back. So far it hasnt cost me a dime as I have used materials already in the garage except for the $5 in sanding discs. I actually was able to sell what was left of the rear seating and old fiberglass engine cover for a few hundred so as of now, I am ahead at least. As far as pulling the engine goes, I am considered handicapped due to having my foot and ankle crushed a few years ago, pulling the engine isnt something I can do on my own anymore and there really isnt anyone around here to help thats why its still in place. If I could get over my fear of fiberglassing I would be alot farther right now. I know I will never be a boat expert but working on this has been yet another learning experience and I would just be puttering around the house if I hadnt been working on it. I know there is a learning curve the first go round.

Mixed up my first batch of resin, ever. Followed the directions to a "t" so hopefully it will dry correctly. A quick question, looking at the diagram showing the fiberglass layers, what does applying the csm on the bootom of the wood do that just sealing it with resin does alone? Also when I seal the bottom can I go ahead and add the csm on then or do I seal and then comeback once dry and resin and csm?

Decided to make an access for the fuel tank. The original floor had seams that were not on a stringer or bulkhead. I assume this isnt correct and plan on adding something to the one are on each side this occurs. Do you need to do anything to the seams from underneath as far as fiberglassing? This seams like it would be hard to do unless there a tick of some sort. If not I guess you just put the sealed end up to sealed end and the glass the seams from the top.
