Re: 1989 Mercruiser 3.0 L, Mercarb, DDIS..bogs, no power
I have gone through this a couple of times on my 3.0lx and the symptoms you describe are dead on but do your comp, test a couple of times and make sure the rig is cold. if the #'s don't change pull the head and look at the gasket very good and breaks between cylinders carbon burns but after removing the valve cover rotate the engine to make sure all of your valve train components are operable. It is a posibility the gasket could be shot but the #'s on #1 are odd ususally it's adjacent cylinders but who knows when everything has been dissasembled take a good straight edge and lay it on the deck of the block and use a feeler gauge you shouldn't be able to get anymore than a few thousands under the straight edge do this in numerous places especially between cylinders and the outer edges do the same with the head after a good cleaning of course. This is not wasted effort the head will have to come off anyway. post back with some results all this info is in the Merc service manual. Oh yea another trouble shooting tip for symptoms such as this is a spun prop hub.
