1989 Mercruiser 3.0 turns over, but won't start

Spent the day out on Cape Cod Bay. When I got home and tried to flush out the motor, it wouldn't start. It cranks and seems to want to start but won't. I charged the battery. I am alone so it is tough to turn over motor and check for spark. I am having trouble locating a fuel filter also. I don't see one in-line, or, at the base of the carb.The fuel line goes from gas tank to pump to carb.
I just got this boat 3 weeks ago and I am very new to boats.Learning as I go.

The ignition points would be the first thing I'd check. Fuel filter is built into fuel pump, look for a small metal cup attached by a strap with a screw on the bottom of pump. There is also a screen inside the big nut on carb where fuel line connects.
