After quite a bit of prompting, adjusting and fidgeting we finally have this Mercruiser running. And for the most part it sounds quite nice. The only thing that is bothering me is a subtle yet distinctive valve tick. Can anyone help me with guidance on adjusting the valves? Is there an online manual for these engines?

Thank you.

Re: 1989 Mercruiser 3.0 - Valve Adjustment

I found a slightly bettery way, in the book they state if you want to do with the engine not running to place the engine on cyl 1 with points open and adjust a sequence of valves, and then to put on cyl 4 with points open and do the rest. That is all fine, but if you go the extra 3/4 turn like they say, mine were too tight and I got no compression on a few cyls.

So I followed the book to get the lash out of them and after starting it up, did the 3/4 turn on each very very slowly. Perfect. Nice and quiet.
