1989 Mercury 135

I am planning on looking at a boat with a 1989 Mercury 135 "blackmax" I have never been around these V6 outboards and know very little about them besides they or atleast the older ones share the same switchboxes and coils as my `80 115 inline six.

I also assume this motor is oil injected. Is that system fairly reliable?

Is there anything I should be on the look out for?

I have a 1997 mariner 135 V-6. I had problems with the oil injection system. It seems a plastic gear broke in the block which controls the oiling system It was too expensive to replace since the block would have to be opened to repair. I just run oil in the gas tank at a 50-1 ratio. It runs fine. better than melting the pistons because of too little oil.
