1989 mercury 25hp 2stroke outboard

Ive got a 1989 mercury 25hp 2stroke outboard motor that i need help with.
It has sat up for a year but ran great when i parked it. I always run the fuel out so the carb is good and clean. It starts and runs but pops sputters and dies.What would be some diagnostics to look for any pointers would be great..

I had this problem with my 35hp. What I did was throttled the motor up a little over idle and cranked it and it worked the kinks out. Run some seafoam
