I have tried many things so this may seem to be long a story but bear with me and PLEASE HELP. I have a 1989 115 L6 mercury with power trim. It has 3 type 3 carbs and coils instead of a distributor. My last few outings the motor has been getting harder and harder to start and getting it to run once in gear. Once the motor warms up it ran like a champ and no problems. Well until Sunday. Towards the end of the day it did not want to start and I had to really throw it into gear to keep it from dying just to get back to the dock. Now it will crank and crank and will not fire. The compression is about 120 psi in all cylinders and I get spark from the plugs. I am not sure on if the spark is strong enough but there is spark. The carbs are getting fuel and I believe there to be no problem there due to fuel actually dripping out of the carbs. Also, I bought new plugs just assuming it was fouled plugs but the plugs were fine but i still replaced them. The wires are in good condition and I am skilled at automotive engines. I know how to turn a wrench but just don't know where to turn it and on what. I have a hunch it is a stator or something electrical. Again please help!!! I am hoping to get this fixed by Friday and just want this headache to go away so I can enjoy the lake like god intended.

Go to Engine FAQs and do "Outboard won't start", Bert.

Let us know what you find. Good luck. :)
