Thank you very much.

I pondered the vinyl but that floor was reused and there are a few "imperfections" in it.
I think they would show with the vinyl.
The carpet is gonna be a PIA but it will cover all that a bit nicer.
im not sure what color though.
The pedestal seats are 3 colors and Im leaning towards a Grey thats in them.
Its light but it will look pretty good I think.
Decisions decisions
Im sick of navy and that boat is "blue" enough.

You want light. I have navy in my last boat and it always looked filthy. Even freshly cleaned, the second you stepped in the boat from the ground.....filthy again.

Re: 1989 Specrtrum 1700 project.

More carpet in.
I ran out and need another 12 feet or so.
That stuff is from Lowes. Its 2.95 a running foot. 6 foot wide.
Its got a marine backing on it (so they say.) its rubbery.
Then theres the drivers console pretty much complete.
I need to make a little cover plate there for the steering gimble.
The passenger console seemed to get exploded from the flash. Dont know what the heck happened there.
The carpeting is pretty tedious. Its taking a while but this is the final step.
If you start hacking here all the other things you did wont matter.
I got 4 more weeks to finish it. It will probably only take 1 but I might get lazy.
Ive made a pact with myself that this boat will be 100% complete before my starcraft gets unpacked.
I dont want to be dealing with 2 boats at the same time.
Plus this one needs "unwinterized" before it goes on the water.
meaning, checking lower units and wheel bearings.
Then the cover needs waterproofed too.

Re: 1989 Specrtrum 1700 project.

Weekend update.
More carpeting.
I got glue on the back of my legs. among other places.
Note: Do not install glued carpet in shorts!!!!!
Front speakers in, made a plate for the steering wheel gimble.
It dresses that out a little bit.
I even got a couple pieces of the padded upholstery in there.
The carpet is becoming a bit tedious.
Man! Thats a lot of work.

Tim, very nice work on that carpet it looks brand new on the interior:)

The casting deck in the stern looks great.

Those photos in the background some Pike? Looks like you know a thing or two about catching fish:D

Looking forward to seeing this rig all done, and then we can check out the Starcraft!

Re: 1989 Specrtrum 1700 project.

Thank you very much. I was hoping for a compliment.
I got a lot of views but not too many comments.
I went off to Lowes at lunch to pick up the last of the carpet for the floor but they are all out.
Figures!! They found some at another store but its a haul to get over there. Ill go tomorrow morning and pick it up.
Im dying to see it with the pedestal seats in there.
I hope it sells quick.
The Starcraft wont even get uncovered till this boat is 100%.
I cant even take it to the river cause its at flood stage.
More pictures on Monday. It should have carpet, seats and windshield installed.
Plus another round of empty beer cans laying about!
Oh, by the way. Them pictures are all muskies. Only one is a pike.
A bunch of them are St. Clair muskies too. That lake put a hurting on this boat.
Id say its about 95% responsible for the loose rivets that I fixed.

Re: 1989 Specrtrum 1700 project.

weekend update!
All I did was the floor carpeting this weekend.
I had a bit of drama on the home front this weekend which kept me busy with other stuff.
I did however, use my pool table Saturday night.
That means all the boat stuff is cleared out and that room is empty!!!
ill get the windshield on it this week.
With the time change, Ill be able to pull it out into the driveway to work on that.
It will take two people to do it too. Dont want that misaligned.
Im pleased with it so far.

Re: 1989 Specrtrum 1700 project.

Ta-da! its done. Well, 98% Id say.
I ran both motors on the ears and both ran with no problems.
Cant really test drive it yet cause the rivers are still pretty high.
I gotta bundle some wires here and there and do a general clean up of it.
At any rate, here it is.

Re: 1989 Specrtrum 1700 project.

Heres a few more with the cover on it.
It dont do much but I cleaned that cover and sprayed it with the 303 waterproofing.
My trigger finger was wore out from spraying that 32 oz bottle a million times.
It worked too because it rained last night and the water was beading on the cover.
Thats cool

Great job on the restoration. I just recently purchased an 1989 Spectrum 1700. I think is a cool boat with a nice design. Other than the low person weight capacity, I think it is an underrated vessle. I spotted your ad on craiglist and peek my interest to check out the forum thread. Good luck on selling the boat.

Re: 1989 Specrtrum 1700 project.

Tim, I am the leaky rivets guy and I am glad to read about your battle. I didn't think about making a custom console but I will! I am looking at lowes as well for my carpet because of the backing. I put marine plywood in but it sure looks the same as regular ply, so I want to protect it. I made several custom items with my boat and the one I am tickeled with is installing a three day cooler where the old piece of plastic cooler set. Also I added a removable door in the bow area so I wouldn't fall in the walk way and break the window supports again. How much carpet did you end up purchasing. My boat budget gets chopped everytime my wife starts thinking about it so I should get plenty the first time?

Re: 1989 Specrtrum 1700 project.

I sold the boat!! It took about 2 1/2 weeks.
I was offered money/guns, a 4WD Quad with a finish mower attachment/money, had 3 people look at it and the 4th went for it.
Thing is the buyer said he saw my ad on criagslist and blew it off.
Then he was surfing around here on Iboats and saw it again.
Once he looked over this resto thread, it sold him on it.
So, THANKS IBOATS!!!!!
Thank you very much!!!
