I purchased a boat last year that had an 89 Suzuki DT85. It never would get up on plane. I had the carbs built since it didn't wanna idle. I hadn't been able to take it out and finally did. It has the same problem only idles now. I noticed the wires for the water cooling sensor were clipped. I understand that this is a magnetic switch and a buzzer is supposed to sound when the engine is cranked until water gets up in the head. I get no buzzer at all. I understand that if the sensor is tripped it will keep the engine rpm's to 3000. Without having the sensor at all would this have the same effect?

Joe

with no sensor you have no alarms. sometime around 1989-90 they did incorperate a sensor for temp as well as for flow. you need to replace the flow sensor.its just a float switch. I just cant remember when they did it.

It has a separate temperature sensor and cooling sensor and is a 1989. I think i'm just gonna find the local Suzuki dealer and hope they're more honest than our local Yamaha dealer. It's hard to find a good mechanic let alone a good boat mechanic. Thanx for the response Rodbolt. I surely don't need any unnoticed problems due to not having alarms. We fish below the dams for salts way too much for that.
