Ok... Just joined this thread, and I see a few things I think I can comment on.

1. First video. That engine sounded very much like it has a couple of stuck valves. Given that it sat over winter, I wouldn't be at all surprised. That would also explain the back-fire through the carb.
2. You turned the engine over until you had #1 at TDC, then found the rotor pointing at #6. To me, if you haven't moved the distributor since the engine last ran, your on the TDC firing stroke of #6, and the TDC exhaust stroke of #1... I wouldn't be moving that distributor anywhere....
3. The Tan/blue wire is the alarm system. It will have power on it when you turn the key ON. It should be connected to a switch (oil pressure, water temperature or gear oil monitor bottle) which will ground the wire (and fire the alarm) when a fault condition occurs. DO NOT connect it to any post on the distributor... It's the correct wiring for one of the distributor posts to have one wire (wht/red) and the other to have 2 wires (both wht/grn)....

Re: 1989 Wellcraft 5.7L Was running......NOT NOW HELP GUYS

Ok......... Little upset. Took it out on the water today for a test run. Started up. Pull out from dock and when I opened it up full throttle. Very very slow. NO power. Could not even get up on plane. So I just went back to the dock at pretty much idle speed.

I am thinking again carb or timing. No sure. HELP. Could I have it timed wrong? I put 1 at TDc and then made sure the distributor was hitting the 1 plug. Then I timed it to 8 btdc. That is correct right? Thanks

Check plug wires and make sure they are on the right plugs. Then check them again.

sounds as if the valves had seized in the valve stems and possibly on cranking the engine may now have a set of bent valves.undo all rockers and all the valve tops should be level as the cam will not be depressing them via the rockers once removed.

Re: 1989 Wellcraft 5.7L Was running......NOT NOW HELP GUYS

head was in good shape. the valves were ok as well but I had them replace them anyway. I put the head back on and re set ALL the rocker arms. That was the problem from the start. I had the Valves TOO TIGHT. after I did the first head gasket replacement last year I never did the valves correctly. I had them to tight on the odd side. Now that she is all back together she starts right up and runs great.

thanks guys
