Re: 1989 Wellcraft Monte Carlo ?'s and build

Well it's just starting to look like that might be my best move for financial reasons..... I really would prefer to keep her for another season or two before selling and get a bigger flybridge carver..... I really miss my old carver..... but I may just have to settle for running the little CC for a while and I could throw about 2k at it if I sold the monte and really fix it up nice.

Currently I just have more irons in the fire than I have coals enough to heat.... ya know?

aint that the truth, lmao, i hear ya loud and clear. are you really gona throw a couple thousand into the cc, whats that gonna do to the budget?:D kidding aside the cc is shaping up nicely, once the demons pass, easy street. besides you will be saving a ton of gas over the monte carlo , the way the gas prices are, 2g will come in no time. lol

forward motion aint a bad thing, who knows you could find another carver next month, play the hand brother.
at very least you'll be able to pick up a new puter:facepalm::D and start posting pics, lol.
best of luck

Re: 1989 Wellcraft Monte Carlo ?'s and build

Well I won't be looking for another carver (but yeah, you never know) till after buying a chunk of ground and building a shop (must have a 14' door and 16' rafters btw :D) but I need to make the coin to do that first... UGH

I've been trying to decide how much to price this thing at.... Looking today, prices are all over the map from $8,500 for an 85 w 4.3's to $18,900 for an 86 with new engines (no size listed) Seems that the 260's are pretty rare. If I do end up selling it it will be without the trailer and without the genny.

I'm GREAT at pricing parts and project boats but this one.... not sure..... I'll make a nice profit on it tho.... as long as I don't figure much for my labor that is lol.

noooooo labor never counts,,,:Dlol hobby, think hobby, lol

price depends on speed of sale, but i know what you mean, if the fit n finish is right go big.

just a thought here, but with your buying skills, get a trailer for it, another big house battery, and sell it ready to go, the more you worry a buyer about the less you get from them

Re: 1989 Wellcraft Monte Carlo ?'s and build

heck, it's got 4 batts in it, I have a trailer but most folks with a boat this size leave em at a marina.... I'm thinking that I won't get as much for my trailer selling them together as it would be worth by itself and I want it for a future boat. Same w the genny..... won't add much to the sale but is worth a pretty penny to me.

The boat is turn key. Carpet for the cockpit and a few small details in the cabin and she's gtg.

I'm thinkin 12.5 would sell fairly quickly ........ All I can do is try aye?

^^^^^^^ agreeed, most do leaeva total care to marina!
we just had a marina flold here last summer, middle of the season, they just closed up.
all the boaters got together and paid the light bill and stayed for the remainder of the season.they were the haul out and store guys,,,, eek everyone got taken out tho, one way or another,,. but it was scarry for sure. i guess it's just in my head no worries.

thats alot of boat for 12,5agreed it should move, my only suggestion is wait a lil longer, maybe start sale at thunder, lots of interest there. that way it don't sit too long. imho

Somehow I had missed your thread until today. Super nice boat and a great job on the rebuild! I hope you get to keep it as long as you want. Someday I'd like to have a boat for me and the missus to camp out on... Congats!!

Wow what a saga, you sure have staying power, enjoyed the story all the way. Picked myself up a Monte Carlo 28 1987 this March, guy was dumping the boat he did not know how to fix anything. Got it for a song, engines ran like crap, electrical mess up dash board barly anything worked, pumps not working. Spent enjoyable hours puting things back as they should be, engines as it turns out had few hours on them wired up the dash new switches some gauges recoved interior seats and stuff new galley table original ones are quite ugly with that purple stripe and cup holders every thing is white and black. This model has the best of best interiors for size and use of space and is now the envey of the marina for boat owners with the same size boat. Good luck with your ship I sure do love the look and feel of mine

Re: 1989 Wellcraft Monte Carlo ?'s and build

thanks guys... I'm working soooo many hours now that I have fallen out of boating (and for the most part the forum) for a while BUT I had it in a slip for a month and I enjoyed it alot.... it is no problem at all for me to trailer it but it is just soooo convenient to just walk up and go.... also having it hooked up and sleeping at the marina vs sleeping on the hook on the ohio river is like a holiday inn vs a tarp over a rope tied to a couple trees

'fraid not... I haven't even seen her since july.... She will likely get a few upgrades at some point but I'm not sure when... I AM working with a canvas guy on a storage cover but otherwise she is dry docked for a while.

Ok, finished reading it. What a great time you had. Wish I had the time and smarts to do what you do. Awaiting more information on boat. Art

Re: 1989 Wellcraft Monte Carlo ?'s and build

Thanks Art... I am actually going to Massachusetts as soon as I get my truck running again to pick up another montecarlo for parts for this one.... It has a mooring cover, rear bench seat, radar, aluminum radar arch, a newer stove, and a newer electric head along with lots of other goodies... I'm paying a whopping $100 for it along with the apr $600 in fuel to get it... it is also coming with 4 boat stands...

Since you have a V-20 then you need to click on the link in my sig, "free boat" and also come on over to wellcraftv20.com and sign up.... best bunch of guys you will ever find on the net.... Tell em smoke sent ya

smokeonthewater, I almost purchased that boat off EBay. I was interested in the windshield (long story short an item off my boat broke a monte Carlos side window and I wanted to replace it for the owner), and the radar arch (it might fit on my flybridge). Glad to see you picked the boat up!

you want the windshield, it's yours for the small fee of picking it up and helping me load the boat....
the radar arch I'm keeping lol

Any idea when you plan to head up that way? I'm going to touch base with the owner of the boat soon. It's about 2 hours from me and I've loaded/unloaded a few boats before.

I'm hoping within a couple weeks... I'm putting a transmission in my truck right now... converting to a six speed manual too... whan I get that done I'll start looking at the weather and working the details...
