Hello I hope everybody is enjoying the long weekend. I picked up this really clean 1989 Wellcraft Eclipse that had a bad 4.3 engine. I had a new 1986 4.3 in a old omc boat that I changed flywheel and starter and put it in my wellcraft. got the motor in and dialed in in the driveway with earmuffs on and sounded great. I changed the bellows and water tube and gimble bearing and headed off to the lake which is 30-40 minutes away. We launched and I was ideling waiting on the driver to park the truck and the temp hit 210. &%$# why did I not think of the sea water pump? So got that changed and I must say i'm really liking this alpha one drive, much easier than my old stringer to work on. Any way boat ran great but I have just a few things to work out. One is my fuse blew while the drive was all the way down. after that obviously ran like a tub of crap. I did not know there was a inline fuse at the pump so i had to stand in the ramp and pop my cylinders off my drive. I cant see any bad wires yet so im guessing i will start with new switches on the drive. The other thing is the boat has a 13 inch 17 pitch prop and i wasent watching close and wot was about 5500 rpm. I have to question the tach because it reads zero but shows around 2000 when you start it up. I have been a auto mechanic for over 20 years and i can tell for sure warm slow idle showes around 1200 rpm but it is not that fast. Does anyone have any idea what prop might of come on the boat new or can anyone suggest one. We do not ski a lot just might drak the kids on a tube but i do like to cruise fast. I am going to check my tach compared to a meter and see what is up. Also I need a fuel guage and a volt guage but other than these few things i am very pleased with this project.

Re: 1989 Wellcraft project

My Wellcraft 19' has a 14.5" 19P which seems to work well...13"17P seems a little too small. Straight 6 and I can "cruise" at 35mph @ 3/4 throttle.

As far as the tach I'd pull the panel to make sure it's set to read a 6cyl, and all connections are clean.
