I have a problem starting my 120 evinrude, I replaced the starter but it still strains to turn over. I put the jumper cables right on the starter to bypass the solenoid so I know that it's getting enough juice but it still strains to turn over.. Anyone have any thoughts..

Is the motor well lubricated? Is something binding? Making any grinding sounds when turning over?

are you sure you have a fully charged battery, no dead cells, load test it at auto parts store. remove clean all cable connection, and inspect cables for any nicks, or swelling. they corrode from the inside out. thus not delivering enought current. make sure all connections are tight.

Remove all the spark plugs and try pull starting it with a rope, or just turn the fly wheel by hand. It should turn over pretty easy. Also the starter should have no strain to turn the motor over without spark plugs.

Thanks, I'm going to take the plugs out and try turning it over that way. I hope it's not sezed up.. it wasn't running hot or grinding., but you never know.

IF it is hard to turn with the spark plugs out, do not immediately assume the motor is toasted, check the oil in the LU, then drop the LU and retest.
