Well here I am again, same motor, same mech, same shop but I need some tech info that I am sure the marvelous people here can furnish.

1. What should be the thickness of the magnets glued to the flywheel be?

2. If they are to thin, way to thin, will it affect the induced voltage in the stator?

3. What was the first year that OMC brought out the ocean pro (white) 200 hp engine?

When I can get back in the shop I will try to find some numbers stamped somewhere to help narrow it down, and will be back here asking for help again?

Questions 1 & 2: The magnets are approximately 3/8" thick. If the replacement magnets are not exactly identical to what is required, the purpose of the magnets is canceled (generate AC charging voltage to the rectifier, and to the powerpack(s).

Question 3: I'll leave that for another tech.

Joe

Thanks for the reply. I sort of figured they had to be exact as there is no way to adjust the placement that would cause them to be closer to the poles on the stator. I know on the ones I have seen there is not a whole lot of space between the mags and stator poles.

I know you don't need one now, but if you know of anyone.... I have a completely rebuilt powerhead for the Looper 1988 1992 200/225hp Evinrude/Johnson (big bore 3.685), restored by myself. Selling it for $2500. Pics available. ReevesJ32@aol.com (Tampa Bay area)

Joe

I would have really liked to have known this about a month ago, it would have been sold. By the way, my boat is set up with twins. The one being rebuilt is standard rotation, the other one is counter rotation and right now the compression is 90-92 on all six. If I ever get it back will run decarb and recheck. I will keep your motor in mind and spread the word here.
