Re: 1990, 225 Sundowner 5.8L, 32mph??? NEW INFO!!
Hey guys,
Spent the whole weekend on the lake. Yesterday I borrowed a GPS from a friend, hooked it up, fired up the boat and went for a ride.
Well lo and behold GPS read 37MPH!!! So my boat speedo is reading low by 5mph. That is more like it in my opinion as far as speed. Tach was reading 4100 rpm but I determined that to be low by 300rpm using a digital tach on the motor, so actual is more like 4400.
I am satisfied with the speed. I would love to do 42mph but it is fast enough for me. Maybe some cleaning and bottom painting this winter will help.
I would like to have it plane faster (I do use the trim tabs and motor to trim) but I am afraid if I change props I will lose top end.
Anyway thanks to everyone on here including Don S. and Mikdee.
I am pretty sure it is a 351 as the plastic cover that goes over the spark arrestor says OMC 5.8L.
Thanks again,
Jeff
