I recently purchased a 1990 250 sundancer and earlier today I noticed that when you turn the ignition switch on, approximately 10 seconds later there is a buzzer that sounds until I turn the engine over. I guess my question is is this just a way that the boat omits this buzz sound to let me know that the ignition switch is in the on position?

Something is broken, try and fix it.....

The buzzer is a warning.

Really not sure on that motor if it's just warning or if it's really an issue.

A lot of those sterndrive motors have a warning system for overheat and loss of oil pressure. They also have gauges for both, which are independent of the warning system. On those boats with such a warning system, there is a delay when the key is turned to on and the low oil pressure alarm is triggered.

You might look for an automotive-type oil pressure switch (shaped like a thick 50 cent coin), on your motor. Look near the oil filter. The oil pressure sender for the gauge, is larger and has a dome-type shape.

Check the thermostat housing for two water temp senders. One will be for the gauge an one for the alarm.

Warning that you have no oil pressure or you have an overheat. Once the motor starts that goes away. If you hear that buzzer while running, shut it down and see what the issue is.

Yes it goes off once the motor is running. It only sometimes comes on when I turn on the ignition switch and let it set for a few seconds before starting it. I just wanted to make sure nothing was going wrong is all. Pretty much throughout all RPM's I have a steady 40 P.S.I.
