1990 3 hp Johnson Soup Up?

So, I got me this 3hp Johnson and it just won't plane my boat. I was wondering. It's got two cylinders on it. Now, I was lookin' at the 6 hp Johnson from the same year. It uses different spark plugs, but it's just got two cylinders, too.<br /><br />So, If I put the L77JC4 plugs from the 6 hp motor in my 3 hp motor instead of the RL82 plugs, and change to a higher pitch prop, do ya think it'll plane my boat?<br /><br />I'm sure that's the only difference. I mean, they both have just two cylinders, right?<br />

A six won't plane your boat either. A 7 1/2-MAYBE. A 9.9, most likely.<br /><br />The ONLY thing those two engines have in common is two cylinders.

Goodoleboy,<br /><br />Ya know, I wuz thinking. If them spark plugs don't do the trick, I could get me another of those 3hp Johnsons and hang that right off the back of my boat next to the other one. Shoot fire...there's plenty of room on my ol' john boat. I could get maybe three, four of 'em on back there.<br /><br />Sucker oughta fly with all them cylinders. Just think...if I could get four of 'em on there, it'd have as many cylinders as my pickup. <br /><br />I'm thinkin' water skiing, now....

My 6hp yamaha will plane my 12ft aluminum boat pretty easily with myself + 50lbs of gear in it.

That's not such a bad idea, I think. Maybe I could run them things on that model airplane fuel. I wuz thinkin'...I could hook all them throttle levers together with them little bungee cords, then rig up all them tiller handles with some duck tape and a broom handle or some other such thing. <br /><br />That way, I could sit it the middle seat on the old boat...ya know...get the weight some forward.<br /><br />So, picture this....four a them 1990 Johnson 3hp motors, all with the spark plugs outa the 6hp ones. All the throttle levers hooked up together and me with the broomstick on the middle seat.<br /><br />Fill those tanks with model airplane gas, then fire 'em suckers up and look out, Betsy.<br /><br />That setup oughta get me 30-40 horsepower, I think. It'd stink some, though, what with that model airplane gas in there.<br /><br />Quad Johnsons on a jon boat. What a deal!

Yeah, lots of folks would say I'm stupid, but look here. I'm won't be the only guy out there with four outboards on the back of the boat:<br /><br />

You had me thinking for a minute that if I put Corvette plugs in my Explorer that maybe I could do 0-60 in 5 seconds.<br />Can't figure out what to do with the 2 extra plugs though. <br />Forget that, I'd have to use high test, regular is too expensive as it is.
