I rescued this 3hp evinrude (e3bresr) from being scrap aluminum, gave the guy $25.00.
So I cleaned it's internal fuel tank, pulled carb and cleaned the main jet emulsion tube, the float setting looked good and the needle and seat appear decent, put it all back together and checked spark by pulling rope and watching plugs, they both sparked, started it in a barrel of water and it overheated right away so i pulled the impeller and found the key was missing and impeller looked brand new, so I carved a key from nylon and now it runs cool although it seems rouhg and wont idle for well also has trouble revving up, wont run long before stalling, low speed setting doesn't do much.
I think the plugs are wrong Autolite 4123's when motor calls for Autolite 2665, don't know if it makes much difference, anyhow are there any points or anything under the flywheel that could be causing weak spark? Sorry for the long winded.
