Looks like a good time for an acetone bath. I started slow until I got the feel for the glue.
Didn't want to waste any by not being able to use it and it was always fresh.

I will go over this again and make some final adjustements.

Keep in mind the resin and gel coat has a shelf life of couple months. If you don't think you will get to it that fast might want to wait to order those items. I would add some more cabosil, it really gets eaten up fast. My tip would be to buy white gel coat and add the Halyard as needed, this was much easier to match color for me. Save your money on stir sticks and grab some everytime you go to the store. I grabbed them everywhere i went, even Walmart.

this boat needs to be done in the spring. so I plan on getting this done in 2-3 months. I'm actually looking into 30 gallons total. The stringers will be bedded with PL. I looked up on how much resin gets sucked up into the csm and 1708 not even considering PB, I should be right there with 30gallons to finish this 19.5ft boat with. 2 tabs for the stringers and capping with csm. 1 layer csm on the bottom of the deck and 2 layers csm + 6oz woven for the deck with 1 layer 1708 for the tabbing. It all adds up I guess.

I planned on doing my boat in a couple months too, im going on 2 years lol... Now I'm going to be throwing away 2 gallons of gelcoat cuz I ordered it early on and its past its shelf life...

I would do as Mike recommended and only order what you need when you need it.

Isn't that kinda pricey paying for shipping constantly? I can see to get maybe two orders in. the first to get started and to see how much you use and estimate the second order to finish another month in or so.

Most shipping is by weight, so if you have it shipped at once or later it doesn't make that much impact. My orders were about a month apart and I was glad I waited cuz I needed more stuff than u thought in some areas. I was short on cabosil and 1708.

You got me convinced.

Both sides of the transom has this loose chop strand stuff as soon as you grind through the top resin. It feels solid on top where the wood was. I won't grind it all away and will just add the new board and pb it in. I did grind the transom area completely down.

Transom wood is cut with a roughed key hole. The side panels are cut as well. Had to cut it across since the face is not flat. That explains why the old wood wasn't even attached the the hull. There was about 1/2 inches of gap. Now I have around 1/8 and I will just have to fill it with pb

Yes. It seems things are speeding up now. The bigger the piece the more accomplished you feel.

I do have a concern thats been bugging me since I started.
My fill line came in between the port side stringer next to the motor mount. The alternator bracket squeezed the tub a little which I will replace. I want to cut the stringer lower on this side with doubling it up to leave more room.

Is it a problem to split my stringers like this? Since plywood comes in a 4x8 sheet, I don't have a nice split where I can use the 8ft in length. So my bulkhead will be the split. I will do 2 1708 layered tabs to hold it together at the joints.

My simple opinion is, yes. (And I don’t know much) I don’t see why as long as you tab n glass it all accordingly. I’m no expert but our boats were built with far less effort and they survived. What you are doing will be far better than factory and should last far longer.

You could also run midway between each bulkhead and have a scarf joint in the ply midway between each. Essentially, making one solid stringer.

I'm not sure I can make a good scarf. They need to be pretty flat and have a really good matching opposite right

you wrap it with enough glass you could make them out of anything the wood is/was quickest form

Do a butt joint. Both sides. Use screws and PB.

As it turns out, I looked at the previous photos and it appears they were split. The bulkheads went from port to starboard and the stringers were split at the bulkheads.

I also just cut my everything other than the front 4 stringers. I will pick up my resin tomorrow and on Thursday we get 70F. Time to start laying some glass on the transom.
