mical, do a search and find out how to do the fuel flow test. I am looking now and will put the link in if I find one. Don't just replace it, that may not be the problem.

Famous last words.... you've got to go through a trouble shooting sequence. Or do like Bondo says and keep throwing parts at it. Do you make a lot of money?

Just a cheap test...

Clean Carb with carb cleaner.

Get a container of gas (a little 1 or 2 gallon jug should be fine).

Disconnect the fuel line from the anti-siphon and stick it in the jug.

See how it runs....
a. if performance still gets worse then it is on the fuel pump/carb side (including the fuel hose)
b. if performance stays "good" then it is either the anit-siphon,tank, or even bad gas.

If cleaning the carb improves it...it would seem to me that the carb is getting junked up as you run "dirty" gas through it. Maybe you just filled up right after the station got a delivery...you would be amazed at the cr@p that gets churred up when they drop a load.

***disclaimer - I am not a mechanic...just trying to think this through logically so I may be WAY off base****

-JMW

A mechanical pump usually only fails the way that you describe under a load and very quickly. If it is possible, when it is giving you problems, tap on the fuel bowl of the carb. If it clears up then you know where the problem is.
Just my $0.02

well the float is fine, i pulled the fuel pump out and opened it up and it was full of all kinds of crap, i think im going to try and just clean it out and put it back in and see if it gets any better, if it does ill just put a new pump in.

I took my carter pump apart and you could push the suction and delivery valves out with an average pillar drill. One of the valves thats allowed to dry out was completely perished the other was fine, Might be worth checking these. Although as far as I know you cant get a service kit for safety reasons.

I know that I've seen them split open but it was between the pump and carb. It was on a beetle and you can guess what transpired. I would start saving up fot the separator if cost is an issue.

Re: 1990 4.3 liter dies after about 30-45 minutes

mical, I bought my seperator from bass pro, downtown. I think it was around twenty bucks for the filter and the part that it screws too, I then went to napa and bought an extra filter and the nipples that the fuel line connect to.

Do you boat on Arcadia? I heard the other day that they were turning people away because the lake was to low. We boat at Arcadia almost every weekend during the summer.

Tell me what your boat looks like. I have a teal and white VIP. We usually sit over at the beach area, across from the pwc area. How is the water temp out there? we won't be there this weekend, I don't think. If you were there much last year, I am one of the two people out there with a grey weimaraner(dog). Let me know, I will flag you down sometime, or shoot me an email, vipzach at yahoo dot com.

I have a red and white Celebrity, It has a tower and speakers on it now, it didnt last year. We dont usually hang out at the beach, we are usually out riding, but we always ride right over along that shore line from east to west. The water temp is still a little chilly, but it is bareable.
