I have a 1990 70HP Evinrude, and was trying to replace the thermostat. The thermostat that is in the motor doesn't look like the part shown on the BRP web site, and the Sierra kit I ordered doesn't look the same either.
The part that is in the motor has a large rubber diaphragm with a plastic insert. There is a stainless ring that goes into the engine before the rubber diaphragm. The BRP diagram shows a little steel cup, and a rubber doughnut. I got these pieces, but they are too small for the hole in the engine.
The thermostat that was in the engine uses a tapered spring between the thermostat and cover, and the piece in the BRP diagram uses a straight spring.
The vernatherm and smaller spring appear to match what I had in my engine.
I have tried to post a picture of the pieces that were in my engine, in the hopes that someone will recognize the part.
I'm not sure why the engine I have is different than the BRP parts drawing, but I hope someone can help with this.
I don't know if this makes any difference, but the model number for the engine is BE70ELESB. I'm not sure what the "B" means - made in Belgium?
Thanks for any help with this!
