i was thinking about jump seats like these at the stern if i use captains seats for the captain and admiral.

I put jumps in my last boat and will be putting them in my new project as well. I like them a lot.

I've been glassing in my stringers the last couple days, I'll have to snap some pictures. I still need to glass in the bulkheads... Once the stringers cured, I started fitting the plywood for the deck and its actually going easier than I thought it wood (pun intended).

I finally pulled the trigger on some seats today :D I figured I'd support iboats and order them from here. I stayed with back-to-back seats to keep it simple and save some $$.

Thought these were pretty nice for the price, $209:

Those are the same ones I bought (and then returned cuz they didn't fit and I'm stupid and didn't measure) and they are SUPER nice. You'll be pleased. I replaced them with the bucket seats from the same line. Very nice.

two thumbs up....

ill be stripping my capri in a few months.

the hull extension thread will answer just about every question you have asked.
and remember ....in runabout renovation.....jim said.....just duplicate what was there...its allways the easyest......the headaches start when you change the design.

cheers
oops

Thats funny. The god of modified design suggesting not to change design. Oops I guess you know more than anyone if it will be a headache.

Kenny, nice job with that boat! I really love seeing all these threads on bayliner capri restorations, I have a 1990 18' Capri 1800, and I had no idea what the transom looked like... I had NO IDEA that the transom was that small in the boat, and that most of the back area was the hull. My boat drains really slowly, and is capable of holding a few dozen gallons of water in the hull with little or no draining water out the back, so Im sure there's something going on under the gas tank. This thread more than anything showed me the layout of the back portion of the boat, and how big a job the transom would be to replace. Previously it looked next to impossible. Keep up the good work, ill be subscribing to this one, its got lots of great info. Kepp the pics coming too, the more the better!!

Re: 1990 Bayliner Capri restore in progress w/pictures now!!

Hey Guys, Sorry for the long time between updates. I've been moving along nicely on my restoration, and have the new deck in the boat, the bow seating in, and am finishing up the seat bases for my back to back seats this weekend.

My next step will be to re-attach the cap to the hull. I purchased a new rubrail from iboats, its the TACO flexible rubrail and insert, and I got the proper aluminum rivets and 3M 4200 sealant. My question is how best to go about sealing the cap and hull. The cap is currently resting on the hull, do I need to lift the cap and run a bead of sealant around the entire hull where the cap will overlap so i have sealant between the cap and hull, or do i just leave the cap in place and run the bead along the lower edge of the cap. Also TACO recommends i don't reuse the existing holes where the original cap/hull/rubrail was attached but it seems silly to redrill all those holes. Can i just squirt 4200 in the existing holes prior to inserting the rivets and reuse the existing holes?

I'll try to get some new pictures up soon...

thanks,
Kenny26
