Last year we bought the boat in late May and just wanted to get it in the water. I spent some time on the old '82 Evinrude but it seems to have been meticulously maintained. It's as clean under the cover and runs as well as a 5 year old model. The only cosmetic change was the side upholstery...it was completely shot so we replaced it, saving only the old piping.
This year with it on the trailer, I was finally able to change it around. My only two complaints about the boat were the portable fuel tanks and the seating arrangement. Those two 6 gallon tanks were replaced by a 19 gallon permanent tank. I also wanted the battery out of the area were the fuel vent was. The back-to-back seats were not only completely rotted, but too low for me to sit while driving and made it impossible to have a conversation with the other occupants.
So here it is new to us but after the sides were reupholstered.
These are the old seats...look nice in the photo but were moldy and rotted.
The carpet was comprised of door mats to cover the rips in the original one. Everything that touched them turned red. (a neighborhood cat had made a hole in the cover and been calling it home...hence the snow on the seat)
Here is a pic after stripping it down (rained that morning). I was expecting to be replacing the floor and maybe the transom, but after some drilling and seeing only dry wood, I was more than pleasantly surprised (with one tiny exception that I fixed)
