I am trying to replace the inter and outer exhaust gaskets and have all the bolts out but I cannot seem to remove the inter exhaust cover. The outer cover came right off. All the bolts that I can see have been removed including the three at the base. I am worried forcing anything does anyone know if I have missed a step?

Once you get the 6 inner bolts out, there is one more on the outside of that inner housing. It hides behind the bottom nut. See attached picture.johnson exhaust outlet.jpg

There is one additional bolt in that inner cover. There are 3 nuts at the very bottom of that manifold, clamping it to the exhaust adapter. Once you remove those three nuts, look behind the starboard stud. There is a another bolt head which screws horizontally into the block. It might be 4" long. There is not one on the port side. It should be visible, but a mechanic's shop mirror can be used to help to see it.
