1990 Evinrude 110 V-4 Outboard Engine with Turbo making it a 140 hp

I just read this ad on craigslist about this 1990 Evinrude/Johnson, it reads as stated below.


1990 Evinrude 110 V-4 Outboard Engine with Turbo making it a 140 hp. Oil injection, electronic tilt with controls.. $1800.00 obo.

Does Evinrude/Johnson make a motor with a Turbo or was there a kit to do so. I have never heard of this and was very curious about it. Any info appreciated, thanks.

I highly doubt they added a turbo to it. Evinrude certainly didn't make it with one... Maybe he means a Turbo brand prop? There was also a Turbo Jet inboard conversion that used Evinrude powerheads in a Boston Whaler Rage jet boat.

sellers say all kinds of things, that are not true. could be some kind of racing motor attempt that is about to blow up.

There is a simple way to resolve this issue. Ask for pictures of the power head and turbo or quiz him on what turbo, who did the work, how did they modify the cowl, etc.

I did see pics on the ad, the ad is now gone. The motor looked stock to me with the bubble back exhaust. I run a BMW business here in SoCal and we specialize only in M3s. I have seen many forced induction setups on cars, I could not see how it can happen on that motor. I should have emailed him for more info, I just didn't want to waste his or my time.

Turbo? There can't be anyway to get the exhaust pressure to run a turbo without gunking it up in a day with water/oil mix on a 2stroke. That's just stupid!

MarshMan73....my thoughts exactly, at least the water part of it, so they would take exhaust that's full of water and pressurize it and run it back through the intake and carbs????

Sounds like it would work for about 3 seconds before you'd blow a piston out froma cylinder full of water/fuel mixture.

Also I would think it would add more weight than it was worth, and you'd have to get a custom cover to fit over all the useless crap you just installed.

Someone should ask him if it's got a flux capacitor also!

Look who's back with the turbo Evinrude. I can't believe no one is jumping on this. Those turbo Evinrudes are some of the best motors ever made.

please send the guy a message and ask if the turbo bearings have been serviced and ask if he had the valves adjusted at the same time!!

I'm not a Johnnyrude man, but wtf? Is this guy serious? And someone will fall for it. What is that on the divider plate? That special turbo tach only works with engine .

That is definitely not a turbo. I think that's how it was sold to him, and after he figured out that it is not a turbo he's trying to pass it off to another sucker.
