I need to change the oil in my lower unit. I?ve had the thing for two years and I am playing catch up on maintenance now. It's my first boat but I am starting to catch on. What kind of oil do I put in it? Is there anything special I should know before doing this? Thanks

Use marine gear oil in that motor. Regular or synthetic for manual shoft motors. Buy the pump and at least a quart bottle. Two quarts is better.

Remove the top an dbottom stainless plugs abd let the old stuff drain out. Pump in 25oz into the bottom opening. When it comes out the top hole w/o bubbles, install the top plug with a new gasket. Now remove the pump and repeat with the lower plug.

he got it right. drain it and fill it. if you dont have the pump some of the gear oil bottles have a nipple on the end. plug the bottom fill it up till it over runs and cap it off.

Outboard lower unit oil is different from car differential oil. It is a hypoid oil which is made to mix with water and maintain it's lubricating properties. I'd be looking for Bombardier's XPFR oil.
