I have a 1990 Evinrude 150 V6 mounted on a 72' houseboat. This engine starts to overheat when put into reverse for more than a couple of minutes or in a shorter period if you give it much gas. It looks like the exhaust is being sucked into the water inlets - causing an air lock around the impeller. The overheat alarm goes off, water does not spray out of the back of the engine. You have to stop the engine and let it sit for about 20 seconds, then everything is ok. The local dealer replaced the impeller, the prop is in good shape, and there are no apparent obstructions in the water inlets. Any ideas on how to solve this?
