I have a very broad question, I have a 1990 Evinrude 150 XP that I bought as a project, the motor has been setting several years since last ran, I had the starter rebulit and it turns over fine, I checked the compression and have 90psi on all cyls, also checked the fire and it is firing on all cylinders, I took the carbs off ( they were really gummed up), they are clean now,,I cannot get thsi thing to crank, it will hit if I squirt gas in the carbs, I am getiing gas to the carbs, I am using a remote jug of fuel instead of using the boats tank,,what else can I do or check,,thanks in advance

When you cleaned the carbs how many orifices/jets were you able to find, remove, and clean from each bowl?

Hint, answer should be four...

I found those 4 orifices and gave them a good cleaning, 2 of the cars they were pretty well stopped up, I didnt take them out of the bowl, just blew them out with carb cleaner

They need to come out, and the passages they are in then need to be cleaned...In my opinion...You also need to be sure the idle air bleeds got cleaned. These are the little brass holes in the front that kind of angle downward.

You also need to make sure that the primer system is working. The key needs to be held in while cranking for it to allow fuel to pass through. Take that as the gospel and anyone who says otherwise is wrong...

Ill give it a try,,I put a kit in the primer solenid,,when I push the key in I can hear it operate,,If I take the rubber hose off one side of the solenoid should there be a spurt of fuel come out, just wondering how this works,,this motor should rum,,good compression and fire just not getting fuel I think

It should spit fuel if the motor is actively being cranked by the starter.

I got it cranked yesterday and it ran pretty good for a motor that hasnt been ran in 10 years, it was not priming, I had replaced the top of the starter solenioid, I went back and looked at the instructions an it said to remove the plunger in the solenoid, after I did this the fuel was being pumped into the carbs when when I squeezed the bulb this doesnt seem right to me but it worked, the only thing is it will put a lot of fuel in carbs, Im gonna tinker with it some more, may try to find a another solenoid somewhere and just try it

It said to remove and not replace plunger? This cant be correct, without that plunger the valve would be open all the time.
