Yes yours is a crossflow. These old 150 are gas hogs but very realiable. Then again it also depends on what you have it mounted on. My 88 150 mounted on my procraft does drink gas but not to the point that it bothers me but then again I mostly do short shots different fishing spots. I have never kept it going non stop for hours on end. Just keep in mind the size, weight, and hull type of your boat. All these things impact gph and you will need to size your gas tank accordingly. My procraft is 18ft long and wieghs under 2000lbs and came stock with a 25 gallon tank. It was built for compition all day fishing and running at WOT in between fishing spots. If your boat is bigger and more importantly more heavy than that and you will want to go all day or days on a single tank I would recomend upsizing to a 50-100 gallon. It all depends on boat type and usage.

22' Starcraft Islander, loaded with people and fishing gear hoping to weigh in under 3k, May make some 15-20 mile runs on Erie and Huron, and 5 to ten regularly on Michigan, original plan was for 36 gallons, may have to up that!

I used to have a 22ft Winner Cuddy Cabin with a mercruiser 470 ( I hate that engine) I had a 50 gallon tank on it. For the lakes your going on I would probably shoot for some where close to that. The 470 is a 4 cylinder I/O that does ok on gas but not great.

Well got the 150 off the donor boat and all the related rigging pulled! Had to come up with a home for it, so.........
Started with this

Added this

And a little welding later ended up with this!!!

Nice and sturdy and moves nicely with a fork truck, may add casters at some point! Would like to get a stock tank and have it incorporated in to be able to test run with a better water flow than muffs provide. Anyways now I have a great set up to work on my new to me horse power, also have a few more to hang on it when these are done, gonna become comfortable with outboard wrenching.

That vintage engine probably came with plastic float bowls from the factory. They usually warp over time and cause fuel leaks where the bowl face mates to the underside of the carb body. If yours are leaking, you need to replace the carb bowls with the older cast aluminum ones. If you order the original part number bowls from Bombardier, you will get the correct superceded aluminum bowls.

I see several older style carbs for sale on fleabay with the aluminum bowls, what years will interchange? All I would want is to use the bowls not the whole carb.

You'll want to match the part number of the bowl exactly. OMC made may part number of aluminum float bowls for crossflow carbs. You can research the part numbers yourself-from the factory parts website: epc.brp.com

You do both pressure and vacuum because of the double lipped seals. Max is around 14 psi and 14 Hg.

So what is my expected cruising fuel economy, gallons per hour or miles per gallon. I need to figure out tank size, 36 gallons fits the boat nicely, 50 is doable but burns room up I need for other things. Most of my fishing 36 will be plenty, I just do not know how much I will need for lake Michigan salmon fishing? So wide open throttle burns 15 an hour, what is cruising speed gonna burn?

My 140 (V4) burns 6 gph @ 4800rpms & 25mph. Figures out to 3.3 mpg. These numbers are from an actual test. My dad and I took a 6 gallon portable out to Spring Lake and started doing laps until she quit. Took right about an hour to burn it up. Never touched the throttle for the whole hour.

I'd think you'd be around 7-9 gph. with the bigger motor, more wind resistence, and prolly a little more weight.

So theoretically, Three hours of cruising with a little back up? Gravel pits to Grand haven and back no problem, prolly longest regular run I make. Fishing I shouldn't have to run 20 miles out to often, Saginaw bay on the other hand can burn some miles. Maybe bring an extra 12 gallons along under the rear seats for Sag bay just in case? Gotta stay out of the throttle on this one, gonna be nice if it turns poopy out to be able to fly home!

alright, what do i need to go through on this old girl, she has had some salt use. What do i need to check and or buy?
Here is my list, what else?
Water pump kit
carb kits
plugs
Thermostats?????
Lower unit oil
Know that the trim/tilt leaks so reseal?

What else ans where is the best spot to purchase?
My original list had recirc valves on it too, I seem to have forgotten what those are and where?
Also, when doing thermostats, how many parts do I likely need, all the springs and bypass valves, alot of parts in the thermostat diagrams!?
