Ok, as stated above I am having several issues with my outboard.
First just a bit of history.
I took the boat out a week ago and got stranded about a mile from the dock when it lost power at Wot and wouldn't restart.
I knew it had been needing work so I verified compression, (don't have my numbers, but it was good) and replaced the plugs, gapped at .030, replaced the fuel pump, and rebuilt the carb.
I also set the timing to 26 degrees btdc per the guidelines listed in the TSF.
Well I went out again last night and other than taking 5 minutes to idle off lever, it seemed to be running great.
Then I got to my fishing hole and ran into problem number 1.
The motor Won't turn off.
I even removed the key altogether and had to cover the carb with my hand to kill it.
I had to laugh at this as I first couldn't keep it running, now it won't die Lol.
What could be causing this?
Next problem was it did die after a rather long stretch at WOT but was able to restart on the fast idle lever.
My vent system is OK and unobstructed so I need to locate some other causes of WOT power loss.
My third problem is the motor seems to be making a metallic rattling sound at WOT, I am unsure of what detonation sounds like on a 2 stroke but suspect it could have been as a results of the timing change so I backed off the throttle and the rattling went away.
I should mention this didn't sound like the typical "pinging" detonation I'm used to hearing.
Is there a way to verify if it's detonation and how do I fix it?
I should also mention before I adjusted my ignition timing to 26 it had been maxed out at 36.
Any help would be appreciated.
I'm thinking it may have to go to a pro to get the timing taken care of, I don't wanna burn holes in my pistons.
