I have a 1990 evinrude 70hp. It died one day as I was warming it up and won't start. It cranks but doesn't fire. Test of plugs indicate no spark. Test of emergency kill switch and key appear ok. Replaced power pack and spark plugs. Put an OHMS tester in slots A and B from stator and get no reading. Assume stator bad but expensive part. Any further test before I replace another expensive part? I did the test for the coils too and it was ok. What if I replace stator and still doesn't start? It has been attempted so many times plugs are probably wet. New boat owner. Bought it used, took it out once, second time wouldn't start UGGGGGGGGGH!

You sound like you know your way around motors.
Dont know your motor but most outboards have
kill switch and key that let motor run when in the open position( open=run, closed=no run)
If you dont have a manual get one. They are worth every penny.Try the library, the tab at the top of the page,amazon.com,NAPA,ebay,etc.
From your post it seems with the help of a manual it would be cake to solve your problem.
Good luck.

IF A and B are brown wires, and you trust your meter the stator is open, look for burnt windings and melted epoxy that has dripped on block. I would do a compression test before I paid for a stator. Search this site this engine for service bulletins for jets, timing kit and overheating problems.
