I started the motor at half throttle but just so it would start as it wasn't when it was at idle.bob just like jtexas said u can't kill the engine electronically only by flooding the carbs or let the fuel drain out.I have also ordered a new choke and impeller for the motor.I will do a link and sync tommarrow and see what that does.

Half throttle on the control in forward gear or working linkage by hand?
Put a jumper on the mag wire so you can ground it to kill ignition.

I'm in neutral at idle(half throttle just to start the motor).killing the Ignition does nothing hence the runaway.the motor is not running on spark it is burning by pressure like a diesel engine when this happens.

craig has a point, a cold motor shouldn't have hotspots. Pressure alone wouldn't be enough (unless your gasoline is seriously octane-deficient). And in the panic of the moment, memory can be.......let's say......imprecise...

On the other hand, here's another recent case of a cold motor running away:

And this guy tried keyswitch, kill switch *and* pulled the spark plug leads. He just didn't think to choke it.

Not to mention which, without water it would warm up pretty quickly.

One thing we can agree on: it's bad practice to rev a motor on the muffs, and bad practice to start it without water.
