Well I broke the timing link rod coupler. I superglued it and will use it like this until I get a new one. The problem is now I don?t know where to start with the timing. Is there a starting adjustment for the timing link rod couplers on the link rod? Any help would be great. I will use this for when I get my new coupler

brian i'd start by finding tdc just as if you just rebuilt the powerhead.....and following the timing section in your manual...remember cranking degrees is 2 degrees higher then wot....it least it's that way with my 150....

Re: 1990 Force 120 timing help

The little threaded screw that holds this together needs to be back threaded through the plastic piece just until you can see the flathead end come through other side, stop there. This is the plastic piece that is attached to tower shaft. Next you will need to hold the other end of little screw up to opening of the plastic piece that is attached to the trigger and turn screw counter clockwise until fed through piece on trigger. Make sure you don't cross thread any. The little piece on trigger is reverse threaded so that's why you turn counter clockwise. Static Timing is set 28 btdc at wot engine not running. A remote starter connected to solenoid is very helpful here. In water on lake time is 30 btdc at wot engine running. I hope this helps and good luck.

brian....i did some adjust ments to my idle screw....we talked about how it would change the timing but it doesn't since it's set do the screw above it...if moving the idle screw changed the timing then every time you open the throttle up it'd change...sorry it was so clear but didn't think of it...any luck so far?

Re: 1990 Force 120 timing help

Put the links together from memory, static time the motor. This should get you where you need to be. The orientation of the links on the threaded shaft could be different for every motor. If you screw the ends on different than the next guy, and time it, the links could measure way further or closer together than a factory motor. As long as you can make the links hold timing correctly don't worry about it.

Re: 1990 Force 120 timing help

I got it.

Basically I put the trigger end (the side that was superglued) together first. I ran the screw in about half way. I then used trial and error with the other side. I simply finger tightened the nut on to of the connector that is on the tower shaft. Each time I then removed the entire bolt from this end and spun the plastic connector, instead of using a screw driver. The las adjustment was about a quarter turn with a driver. 30 degrees is where I set it.

Thanks all!!!
