I changed the impeller yesterday and had a bunch of milky lower unit oil. My screw gaskets were bad last time I checked the oil (about 2 weeks ago) so I used o-rings instead. This time I re-used the o-rings but also used teflon tape on the threads. Where can water get into the gearbox but the oil not leak out from?

Thanks!!

Water can leak in around the propeller shaft seal, propeller shaft bearing carrier "O" rings, drive shaft seal, gear shift shaft seal. Quite a few places for it to leak in. A seal "Kit" that has all the seals is available for around $50.

Note: If you used rubber "O" rings for the "Fill" and "Vent" screws, they usually get all chewed up. The white plastic or white nylon washers seem to work pretty good for the "Fill" and "Vent" screws.
